HS is an underdiagnosed chronic inflammatory disease characterized by tender nodules, “pimples” that can sometimes drain and cause scarring. Commonly affected areas are the armpits, groin, and under the breast. This disease is due to the hair follicles becoming microscopically blocked in predisposed individuals. This causes inflammation and bacterial growth in the apocrine glands which attach to hair follicles.
